Spring into Action, DC!
Enjoy ample activities near our boutique apartments in Navy Yard, close to Capitol Hill.
Now that the chill is finally waning and the sun is spending more time in the sky, it’s time to enjoy life in DC more fully. One of the best things about this time of year is all of the activities that seem to pop up all around you like wildflowers.
There is plenty to do all around the city, but if you live at Harlow, you don’t have to go far to find a worthy diversion. Just head to any of the amenity spaces. Spring is here, that’s true, but if you’re an early morning person who likes to work out right after waking up, it’s still a little chilly outside. Start your day in Harlow’s fitness center. It’s filled with brand-new, tech-infused equipment, that will get your heart pumping and ready to take on the day. There’s also a dedicated studio space for yoga, barre or stretching activities to limber up and ease you into your day.
Active isn’t all about getting physical, though. Maybe it’s getting a game night together in your apartment. The floor plans at Harlow are open and ready for action the next time you get an urge to play charades.
And, when the weather is perfect (which should be quite often) call some friends, invite them over for a rooftop BBQ overlooking DC and maybe even get a rousing game of bocce going afterward. At Harlow, there are spaces for precisely that, and so much more.
Get Out and About
If you’re a runner who either doesn’t mind the morning cold or can go later in the day, a run by waterfront is a delightful way to get your miles in. Or if you have a longer run planned, go for the full DC experience by jogging on the National Mall. It’s less than two miles away from Harlow and you really can’t find a more iconic run in the area. There are also countless fitness classes in Navy Yard for practically any activity you might want to try from yoga to crossfit to trapeze training.
With spring coming into full swing, all types of festivals and events are coming up. From gastronomic experiences to seasonal celebrations, you’re sure to find several events in the area to really get you going. There’s cherry blossom madness, spring fever and other afflictions you’ll want to catch throughout Navy Yard; see below for some of our favorites.
But beyond all of the new things popping up, just walking through Canal Park and the neighborhood, with your dog if you have one, is a breath of fresh air after being indoors a majority of the winter. Every day there seems to be more in bloom, and if you time your visits to local establishments just right, you’ll be sitting out on their patios right when the flower buds pop open. Some of our favorite patios to catch the SE DC scenery are at Bluejacket, Due South Dockside, Osteria Morini and Ana at District Winery.

Below are some of the more noteworthy activities we enjoyed from this past month.
National Cherry Blossom Festival
Now until April 14
Walking along the Tidal Basin and taking in the sea of pink flowers is one of DC’s most loved activities this time of year. And to be honest, it is one of the most beautiful walks you will ever take in your life. Luckily for you, it’s just down the way. Whether or not you take part in the accompanying festival activities, which are plentiful, the trees are the bee’s knees.
Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run & 5K Run-Walk
Blending the blossoms, a run, socializing and some friendly competition, you can take on this bound-to-be-beautiful race through DC.
Lululemon sponsors complimentary yoga at their Yards Local shop every Sunday at 10 a.m. Each week is different, with varying styles, instructors and flow. It’s a great opportunity to experience a variety of styles and see which yoga practice you like best.
If you like cheering on the local team, you’re in the right place at the right time. The Nationals’ season just started and there will be ample chances to take yourself out to the ballgame just a few blocks away. Or you can peak in over the stadium from the Harlow rooftop! There’s also Audi Field, DC United’s new home, where you can catch one of DC’s favorite teams light up the pitch during a soccer match this April. Audi Field is located near Buzzard Point and is easily walkable from our Canal Park apartments. Go DC!
DC Beer Fest
When the Nationals are on a road trip down in Miami, the DC Beer Fest is taking over Nationals Park. This celebration of brewing arts features over 80 breweries, 200 beers, and tons of food trucks. Whether you go from noon to 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., you’re bound to enjoy a refreshing glass of barley, hops and yeast, and maybe even find some new favorites.
When activity is all around, you’ll know you’re at Harlow in Southeast DC. Come for a beautiful apartment and you’ll find a whole world more. Take a tour of Harlow now and you can get settled into your new place just in time to enjoy the best activities of spring!
